Mobile Behavior: an Omnicom Group Company

When the remake of the campy movie musical Hairspray opened last weekend, our interns Micaela, Ashley and Carrie were sure to be there. They went to see one person, really: Zac Efron. The girls even scored an autograph (right).

Zac is the biggest star you've never heard of. Though teens have; he's already in the top 20 of TRU's list of favorite celebrities among teens (girls, of course). The Hairspray star was also a part of Disney's High School Musical phenomenon. The young heartthrob had 5 songs from HSM on Billboard's Top 100 at once last year. One song was the fastest climbing song in the history of the list, jumping from #84 to #4 in a week. He was turned down for Hairspray until the director's sister said, "You passed on him? Are you out of your mind? He's the biggest star on the planet to anyone under 15!"'

The smash-hit Chicago revived interest in the movie musical genre and was followed by others like Phantom of the Opera and Dreamgirls. Even Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are making a movie of the gory horror-musical Sweeney Todd. Now Zac is going to be at the forefront of the teen movie musical revival: HSM 2 comes out next month, number three is already in talks, and he just got slated to star in another movie gone musical gone movie-musical, Footloose.

Zac makes for good gossip mag material too: Shots of him and his girlfriend (Vanessa Hudgens, also from HSM...has no one called them "Zanessa" yet?) on vacation in Hawaii have been circulating. Looks like John Travolta has officially handed the heartthrob singer/actor torch from his Grease days. We're thinking that the fat-suit drag (left) didn't help much.
