Untethered Social Networks Contribute to Rise of the Status Update

According to a study from Pew, 54% of web users are using a laptop, cell phone, game console, or other mobile device to access the Internet and creating an increase in Twitter use from 14% in December 2008 to 25% currently. The active smartphone market along with the app economy are likely supporting this change. The simplicity of mobile social networking applications like Facebook's and a slew of Twitter apps like Tweetie, Echofon, and Tweetdeck are also helpful in making updating a status while on-the-go more mainstream.
