Avoidr: A Mobile Anti-Social Network
Avoidr is a Foursquare app that lets users know where not to go, in order to avoid certain people entirely.
With Avoidr, you can select any Foursquare contact and discreetly declare him or her "dead to you." You also get to assign an insult to the person in question, picking from a list that includes everything from the tame "jerk" to the much more serious "cancer" or "douchelord."
Once this is done, the app generates a list of locations to avoid.
This definitely builds on an existing behavior i.e., checking where people are to avoid them. You might want to dodge an ex, a friend you're in a fight with, or a coworker after you've had a few beers. But really, how many enemies do you have at one time that you need this? If Foursquare is a mobile social network, is this a mobile anti-social network?
Regardless of Avoidr's actual utility, its interesting to see apps like this (see also: Please Rob Me) generating discussion around the social implications of location-based services.
