MobileBehavior TV: Miso's Somrat Niyogi on Social Viewing

The mobile social viewing space is heating up, one of the contenders being Miso. Miso is an iPhone app that lets users check-in and earn badges around movies and television shows. Not too long ago, we interviewed Somrat Niyogi, CEO and founder of Bazaar Labs/Miso. To learn more, we sat down with him to discuss the future of television, second screen social viewing, and the direction the app is headed -- plus a demo.

MobileBehavior TV: ITP Spring Show 2010 - Part 3

MobileBehavior TV attended NYU's ITP Spring Show 2010 to check out the program's innovative student work. Previously, we covered projects that focus on social viewing and interactive media behavior as well as children’s art. In this last segment, we discuss projects centered around tracking and visualizing data.

Chris Anthony, MyHealth Tracker

This is an application that allows patients to track their pain level and associated symptoms over time. It includes Google Voice and email to allow speech to text functionality. MyHealth Tracker also has a physician backend that assists patients in tracking their health.

Mustafa Bagdatli, Poker Face

Poker Face utilizes sensors to track changes in a user's mood. It uses fabric sensors and a heart rate sensor, displaying the data on a wearable device and a Flash application.

Robert Carlsen, MobileLogger

This iPhone application allows cyclists to collect data about riding their bikes. It maps data on rider density, time of day, speed, and distance. The goal is also to create a sense of connection among cyclists in New York City.

MobileBehavior TV: ITP Spring Show 2010 - Part 2

MobileBehavior TV attended NYU's ITP Spring Show 2010 to check out the program's innovative student work. In part one of this series, we covered the projects that focused on social viewing and interactive media behavior. In this second segment, we spoke to students whose work centered around youth and children's art.

Craig Kapp, ZooBurst

ZooBurst is a digital storytelling platform that allows children to create their own 3D pop-up books online.  If you view the pop-up book in "Webcam Mode" and hold up a card, the book comes to life through augmented reality.

Hana Newman, Art is Mobile

Inspired by the current issues of civil war and the tsunami in Sri Lanka, Art is Mobile encourages children to deal with difficult situations through self expression. Music, photos of drawings, or haiku poems can all be uploaded to myartismobile.com via the mobile web. The children's work is then featured in an online gallery where they can vote or browse others' work.

MobileBehavior TV: ITP Spring Show 2010 - Part 1

NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) is known for its innovation and forward thinking. We attended the Spring Show 2010, where students showcased their final projects for the world to see. In this edition of MobileBehavior TV, we spoke to several of the students about their work, several of which focused on social viewing and interactive media.

Ian Cleary, Campvideo

Campvideo makes it easier to have "Youtube parties," which involve 2 or more people sharing videos online. The service lets you save videos and add them to a "party" or queue that they can go back to and look at later. Once logged into Campvideo, you can also play the videos from a mobile device. The concept is similar to Boxee's Bookmarklet that saves videos to a Boxee Queue for users to watch later.

Josh Schelling, Snark

Snark is a social viewing application that likens itself to DIY pop-up video. It allows you tag comments or "snarks" to streaming video content through a mobile device. These comments are time-stamped, so they will appear on the app as your friends watch the same video . Think of it as time-shifted social viewing.

Lisa Maria Raphael, Unitv

Unitv is an improvised television show where viewers can send in concepts or ideas in order to have the actors respond in real-time.

MobileBehavior TV: Mobile Gifting With Michelle Crames Of Giiv

We recently caught up with Michelle Crames, CEO of Giiv. Giiv is a mobile service that lets users deliver gifts in real time via text message, avoiding the physical gift card altogether.

It’s fairly simple and easy to use. All users have to do is find a gift that they want to give to a friend, either on Giiv.com or using the iPhone app. Then they enter their friend’s mobile number and a little note. Giiv delivers the friend a URL and a code to redeem his or her gift.

In this episode of MobileBehavior TV:

  • Michelle walks us through the gifting service
  • Discussion about Giiv's use for brands
  • Demonstration of the iPhone application
