Postcode Wars: London Is Your Game Board With Nike GRID

Recently popular apps like MyTown, Gowalla, and Foursquare have turned life into a game. Underneath this is a deeper cultural trend towards expressing oneself and exploring in public spaces.

Nike GRID uses the now almost defunct iconic London telephone box to track a runner's progress at designated Nike branded locations. After registering online, players run between two phoneboxes and punch in their unique user id number at each, logging their run and earning them points online.

For this, users do not need an iPhone or Android device. Nike GRID uses traditional phone booths to let runners score points, become "mayor" of a postcode, and earn badges. Players are encouraged to use their street smarts to get around, and are awarded for speed and agility.

The branded event launches at 8pm, Friday, April 23rd and lasts for 24 hours.
